What is the best day and time to send emails?

This is a question that almost always comes up when we are talking to businesses about using email to increase their enquiries and stay in touch with their customers. Believe me, this question is one that everyone (including me) would like to know the answer to. After all, what anyone who uses email wants is to maximise their open and click-through rates. So it wouldn't it be nice if there was a 'silver bullet' to guarantee the best results.

There have been, and no doubt will continue to be, regular surveys and reports on this issue. But to be honest, I haven't found any conclusive proof that a particular day or time performs significantly better than any other. In many cases, regular surveys from the same source show a different day as the best each time a new survey is taken.
 
I believe that there is no absolute answer to this question. However, I do believe there are some other significant best practices to consider when you are planning to send email.

Too often we come across businesses who give us that knowing look when we talk to them about using email as a sales and customer retention tool. A typical response is, 'Oh, we've tried that and it doesn't work.' Or, 'We sent out 10,000 emails and heard nothing back, it's a waste of time.'
